Why BookEnu

Less typing. Cleaner books. Happier clients.

Bookkeeping still runs on shoeboxes of receipts and late-night data entry. BookEnu turns that on its head: clients send documents the moment they get them, AI does the reading and sorting, and you step in only where judgement is needed. The result is up-to-date books, fewer surprises at year-end, and a practice that scales without scaling the admin.

How it works

From receipt to reconciled in three steps

No migration project, no new habits to teach. The workflow fits how your clients already work.

Your client uploads

Clients snap a receipt or upload invoices and bank statements from a simple portal — no training, no spreadsheets, no chasing.

AI reads and sorts it

BookEnu reads each document, extracts the figures, categorises every line and matches invoices to payments — with a confidence score on everything.

You review and report

Anything unsure lands in a review queue. Approve, and your trial balance, P&L, balance sheet and VAT figures are ready — MTD-ready books, minus the data entry.

Questions

BookEnu, in plain terms

What is BookEnu?

BookEnu is AI bookkeeping software for UK accountants and bookkeeping practices. Your clients upload documents through a portal, AI reads and categorises them, and you get reconciled books and reports — trial balance, P&L, balance sheet and VAT figures — ready for review. It is built by EnuSoft Ltd, a UK software company.

Who is BookEnu for?

It is built for UK accountants and bookkeeping practices that want to cut manual data entry and give clients a modern way to send in their paperwork. Each practice manages its own clients, staff and books, with client data kept separate per practice.

Does BookEnu file to HMRC?

Not yet. BookEnu keeps digital records and produces the figures you need — including the 9-box VAT return — so your books are Making Tax Digital ready. Filing to HMRC is done by you for now; direct submission is on the roadmap.

Is BookEnu available now?

BookEnu is in early access. The core product is built and working, and we are inviting a small group of founding accountants to help shape it — in return for hands-on input and preferential pricing when we launch commercially.

Which AI does BookEnu use?

Document reading and extraction are powered by Anthropic’s Claude, with semantic document search powered by embeddings. Every extracted figure carries a confidence score, and anything uncertain is sent to a review queue rather than posted silently.

How much does BookEnu cost?

BookEnu is free during early access while we build it with founding accountants. When we move to commercial pricing, founding members keep a permanent early-adopter discount. See the founding-accountant programme for details.

Is my clients’ data secure?

Yes. BookEnu is multi-tenant by practice, so each practice’s clients, staff and documents are isolated at the database level and never visible to other practices. It’s built with audit logging and long-term record retention in mind, in line with UK bookkeeping expectations.

Does BookEnu work with UK bank statements?

Yes. Clients (or you) upload bank statements as PDF, CSV or Excel, and BookEnu parses, tidies and categorises the transactions — its statement reading is tuned for UK bank layouts, separates business from personal spending and auto-matches invoices to payments.
